There will be discussions amongst the school committee members, past students before the weekend, and there is a planned meeting on Sunday 3rd March. The location has not been confirmed yet but it will probably be at 'Ballerrt Mooroop' or 'Womenjika'

Barbara Williams/Weston who is very active in these discussions has requested support to help fight the Victorian Education Department's decision.

Gary Murray, who is currently in Canberra, will be back in Melbourne for the Sunday meeting.

In the past the school has provided opportunities for 'at risk' young Indigenous students people from Melbourne's northern suburbs to learn about their culture, develop self-respect and incorporate a formal education,

Although there has been some students the school failed to help significantly it has a long list of successes, and everyone that feels good about their life is a great success – however, it has produced many successful individuals that even includes a star AFL football player.

Although technically the school is on Education Department land it contains a community sacred area that is used for cultural ceremonies and an important gathering plac

Breaking News - Melbourne: The Staff of the Ballerrt Mooroop College in Glenroy were told by the Victorian Department of Education that the school will be closed down in two weeks. They were called to a meeting at 1:00pm on Tuesday 28th February, 2012 and told that the school will be closed due to costs and a lack of students.

It is the last remaining Indigenous school in Melbourne and has been providing formal education as well as providing opportunities for students to learn their Aboriginal history and traditions.

It appears that the school Committee have been left out of the loop in regards to closing down the school.

The Committee have been working tirelessly to keep the school open and expand its services to meet the needs of 'at risk' Aboriginal children in the northern suburbs and to ensure they understand and feel empowered by their cultural heritage.

Following a long battle of pickets and rallying last year, the department took half of the land away from the Aboriginal school and early this month they pulled down a building the committee has just completed repairing through working bees. This building was to partly replace the Gymnasium/Meeting room the department bulldozed last year.

More details to as they come to hand.

We had a win nd a loss but we did come out in front we were fighting to keep OUR GATHERING PLACE (Gymnasium), SPIRIT TREE (where an Elder passed away at the foot of the tree - which Uncle Tom Slater used to play a big part with the students as an elder). He loved the Students nd the School nd also OUR CEREMONIAL GROUND (This means alot to our children nd their culture - they have their traditional dancing ceremonies at the ceremonial ground). Our win was we got to keep our Spirit Tree nd Ceremonial Ground.....But our loss was losing the Gathering Place (Gymnasium) for a car park for another school....
