A group of supporters of the Ballerrt Mooroop College campaign attended a meeting on Sunday afternoon, 29th May at the school site in Glenroy, Victoria.

The afternoon comprised of a smoking ceremony, traditional dancing and a campaign strategy and policy confirmation meeting, with many of the supporters offering a variety of ideas and expertise. This support provides the school with further reinforcements but there is an urgent need for extra support from individuals and organisations, both Indigenous and members of the general public.

The school is the only education facility where Indigenous children in the Melbourne region can obtain a formal education alongside regionally appropriate cultural learning.

With all the land taken away from Indigenous people in the last few hundred years, the Education Department is now trying to trim down this small parcel of land and infrastructures. The College received a letter from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development stating that a fence will be erected in preparation to destroy the sacred area and remove the gymnasium to use for a proposed car park.

The contractors are scheduled to start work this Tuesday 31st May, and supporters are rallying to set up a blackade, but they will need support to ensure the picket lines are manned.
