October 22

Dear all,

On October 29 there will be a national day of action demanding an end to the NT Intervention and Jobs with Justice for Aboriginal workers.

A public statement in support of this campaign will be printed in the Australian newspaper and launched with protest rallies around the country. Current endorsements include Unions NT, the Tangentyere Council, ANTaR, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ecumenical Commission, concerned Australians, Greens Senator Rachel Siewert, Prof. Larissa Behrendt, film-maker Warrick Thornton and many more.

Details of the statement and rallies can be found at jobswithjustice.wordpress.com

Thank you to all who have endorsed the public statement and donated towards it's publication.

Endorsements will close at 5pm on Monday October 25. To add your name or your organisation's name to this list please email jobs.w.justice@gmail.com or contact myself or Marlene Hodder from the Intervention Rollback Action Group in Alice Springs on 0889525032.

We are requesting donations of $100 from people and organisations who wish to be listed publicly in the Australian, but any support is most appreciated.

The campaign is gathering real momentum.

I have just returned from Kalkaringi, site of the famous Wave Hill walk-off. The Gurindji people staged a strong stop work rally on October 20 as part of this campaign. More details about this protest and fight coming from the Gurindji are also available at the Jobs with Justice website. Also see Group protests against CDEP cuts, intervention (ABC) and A Story of slavery returns to the top end (Crikey)

A short video report documenting the unemployment and abuse of workers rights created by the Intervention in the Central Australian community of Ti Tree has recently been uploaded at youtubeWorking for the BasicsCard in Ti Tree

A new documentary about the Intervention and the struggle for Aboriginal Rights, 'Our Generation', is currently touring the east coast, with a launch in Sydney as part of the national day of action. See www.ourgeneration.org.au for screening times.

If there is no rally or film screening taking place in your area, please take the time on October 29 to contact federal politicians to express your concern. In particular:

Jenny Macklin, Minister for Indigenous Affairs

02 6277 7560
Mark Arbib, Minister for Indigenous Employment

Please forward this message to all potential campaign supporters.

in solidarity,
