Mabo Day 2010 - Federation Square, Melbourne

Although the Federation Square Mabo Day gathering was not the only 'Mabo Day' event in the greater Melbourne region it was a small gathering. It was great that Joseph Toscano from the Anarchists Society organised it and hopefully it will grow considerably in future years.

In Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders, families, school students and local supporters joined the family of Eddie Mabo as they marched through Townsville to celebrate his achievements. The Mabo day celebrations included traditional dancing, a commemorative ceremony, performances, feasting and featured an address by Eddie Mabo's daughter Gail Mabo.

Murray Island elder Donald Whaleboat gave the crowd insights into campaigning that Mr Mabo conducted to advance conditions for Indigenous Australians including the establishment of a community school.
